This Puako pole house is a terrific place to visit and to live. It sits on the mauka (inland) side of the street, but is only 100' from the same beach access used by neighboring ocean-side homes. This house backs to open parkland and provides a spectacular view of Mauna Kea.
The pole house construction is perfect for the Puako climate. The garage and studio apartment or "ohana" are on the ground floor. The living/dining room, full kitchen, bathroom and two separate, air conditioned bed rooms are on the first floor. The master bedroom and bathroom are on the second floor. A deck surrounds three sides of the house on the first floor level. The main living area is open and airy, in Hawaiian style.
The main home has a fully equipped kitchen, a washer and dryer and an outdoor gas grill. All linens are provided. The studio apartment has a full kitchen as well.
The main house can comfortably sleep 6 adults. The main floor has two bedrooms, one with a queen sized bed and one with two singles that can be joined to make a king. The master bedroom is a loft overlooking the living/dining area. It has a king sized bed and two double sized futon sofa beds.which may be used for additional children. The studio sleeps two in single beds.
The home has an enclosed garage, an outdoor shower and a fully fenced yard. Off-street parking is available.
Puako is a wonderful laid-back community, in stark contrast to the resorts that border Puako on the north and south. Golf, fine dining and expansive sandy beaches are available at these resorts which are within a short walk or drive.
The fringing reef, tidepools and nearshore waters provide habitat for a large diversity of hawaiian reef fish, green sea turtles and, in season, dozens of humpback whales that visit nearshore waters to bear their young. Visitors and residents of Puako use these same waters for snorkeling, diving, swimming, surfing, fishing and kayaking.
This is the first time this five year old residence has been placed on the vacation rental market. Owners will rent the main house or both the main house and the studio.
